Château de Castres

This estate long bore the name of its most illustrious owner, Baron de Poitevin. As early as 1881, the quality of the vineyards was praised in the fourth edition of the Féret guide: “The château is surrounded by a beautiful, continuous vineyard, planted mainly with Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Merlot. The owner produces a remarkable wine, characterized by softness, finesse, and a rich aroma.” Even at that time, this château was ahead of its time; while most of its neighbors limited themselves to mixed farming and often grew only a single grape variety, here several varieties were cultivated with a clear focus on quality. Over the years, several families took turns owning the estate until 1996, when José Rodrigues-Lalande, an engineer-oenologist, and his wife Brigitte, a chartered accountant and viticulture specialist, fell in love with it. Coming from old winegrowing families, the couple discovered, behind the beautiful 18th-century chartreuse and the park with centuries-old trees, an exceptional terroir that forms the heart of the estate.

Reeds in die tijd liep dit château vooruit op zijn tijd; terwijl de meeste buren zich beperkten tot gemengde landbouw en vaak slechts één druivensoort teelden, werkte men hier met meerdere rassen en een duidelijke focus op kwaliteit.

In de loop der jaren wisselden meerdere families het eigenaarschap van het domein af, tot 1996, toen José Rodrigues-Lalande, ingenieur-œnoloog, en zijn echtgenote Brigitte, registeraccountant en specialist in de wijnbouw, er hun hart aan verloren. Afkomstig uit oude wijnbouwfamilies, ontdekte het paar achter de prachtige 18e-eeuwse chartreuse en het park met eeuwenoude bomen een uitzonderlijk terroir, dat de kern van het domein vormt.
