Château de Manissy

Château de Manissy is a historic estate on the right bank of the Rhône, dating back to the 17th century. In the 20th century, it was managed by monks and became known as an emblematic vineyard of the Tavel appellation.

Since 2003, winemaker Florian André has continued the tradition of producing wines from the Southern Rhône Valley. He works biodynamically every day to give maximum expression to the terroir and grape variety.

Florian has a clear vision regarding his choice for biodynamics:

When the fathers entrusted me with the management of the estate in 2003, the vineyard was already managed according to principles of integrated farming, with respect for the environment. I soon noticed that the products used were becoming less effective, while there was increasing talk of soil pollution. It therefore became essential to pay attention to our soil.

That is why I decided to switch to organic farming, even though this meant a great deal of extra work in the vineyard. As a continuation of that approach, I later moved on to biodynamic farming, which seemed like a logical next step.

In concrete terms, this means that today we no longer use chemical products in the vineyard. Since the birth of my son in 2009, I have continuously worked on producing healthier wines. I am convinced that organic and biodynamic methods are the right choice for our soil, our planet, our health, and the future of our children.

Sinds 2003 zet wijnmaker Florian André de traditie voort in de productie van wijnen uit de Zuidelijke Rhônevallei. Hij werkt dagelijks op biodynamische wijze om maximale expressie te geven aan terroir en druivenras.

Florian heeft een duidelijke visie over zijn keuze voor biodynamie:

Toen de paters mij in 2003 de leiding over het domein toevertrouwden, werd de wijngaard al beheerd volgens principes van geïntegreerde landbouw, met respect voor het milieu. Al snel merkte ik dat de gebruikte producten minder effectief werden, terwijl er steeds meer gesproken werd over bodemvervuiling. Het werd dan ook essentieel om aandacht te besteden aan onze grond.

Daarom besloot ik de overstap naar biologische landbouw te maken, ondanks dat dit veel extra werk in de wijngaard betekende. In het verlengde daarvan ben ik later overgestapt op biodynamische landbouw, wat een logische vervolgstap leek.

Concreet betekent dit dat we tegenwoordig geen chemische producten meer gebruiken in de wijngaard. Sinds de geboorte van mijn zoon in 2009 heb ik voortdurend gewerkt aan het produceren van gezondere wijnen. Ik ben ervan overtuigd dat biologisch en biodynamisch werken de juiste keuze is voor onze grond, onze planeet, onze gezondheid en de toekomst van onze kinderen.
